Response rates

The generally accepted rule of thumb for response to a direct mail on a cold list of prospects is between 1% and 2%.

The Direct Mail Association study found that many industries achieved 3% and fund-raisers a whopping 5%.

Highly targeted lists, such as regular customers, can also reach 5%.
